Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a partner?
A: No! You will be matched with a private instructor of the opposite sex to stand in as your partner during your private lessons, and group classes rotate partners.
Q: What should I wear to my first intro private lesson?
A: You will want to wear something comfortable and that you can move freely in. Most people wear slacks or a dress/skirt with a nice top; or jeans and boots on Country Night!
Q: Can I wear gym shoes or my party heels to dance in?
A: Although gym shoes are typically worn for sporting activities, their rubber soles can stick on the dance floor while trying to spin or turn causing a knee or ankle injury. Women's everyday heels aren't thin or comfortable enough under the ball of the foot, which is where most of our weight is positioned while learning to dance. This is why you will see professional dance instructors wearing specially designed dance shoes, often slipping into a different pair as they switch dance styles.
Q: Where can I buy dance shoes?
A: FFB carries all dance shoe styles which include Ballroom (Smooth/Standard), Latin (Rhythm), Tango, Swing and Practice styles for men, women and children. We recommend purchasing a pair of dance shoes soon after the decision is made to start this new hobby, and suggest choosing a Practice pair for dancers interested in exploring a variety of dance styles. Your instructor can assist you in choosing the right pair for you.
Q: Do you accept payments?
A: We offer easy monthly or quarterly payment plans to suit your needs and budget comfortably.
Q: Are my partner and I required to switch during group classes?
A: No, you are not required to switch partners if you aren't comfortable doing so. Switching partners does fine tune your leading and following skills, and you are welcome to do so whenever you would like.
